April 22nd - April 26th

Dear Parents,
We hope you all enjoyed your Easter Holiday. We have recharged our batteries so we can finish the last part of First Grade with great success!

This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Walls with various chants and activities. The spelling challenge will be on Friday, April 26th. The five new words that we will be introducing this week are:

try
kind
hand
picture
again

We are going to start reading Nate the Great. This is a book that will allow us to make a lot of predictions about what will be happening during the story. The children will be engaged with the main character whose name is Nate and he is a detective. We will be working with this book the following weeks.

For the following weeks the children will be writing their own Fairy Tale. The children will be divided into groups and they will decide about the twist they will be making to
very well-known stories.

In Math we are going to continue measuring around the room. This week we will be reviewing length and height. We will also be introducing weight and using scales. If you have any measuring items such as ruler, yard sticks, meters, measuring tape, etc., send them to school so we can use them with some of our fun activities.

We will continue to discuss how to be a good friend to the Earth. The children will be writing different ways to recycle, reuse, and reduce things at home and at school.
Please encourage them to talk to you about all their learning. They are all very excited to become a good friend to our beloved planet Earth.
