ELEMENTARY DISCIPLINE PLAN

EXPECTATIONS

  1. Respect
  2. Responsibility
  3. Good Manners

STEPS OF THE DISCIPLINE PLAN

1    VERBAL WARNING
Student is reminded of the rules and expectations of their classroom and reminded of the consequences if they continue with their poor choice of behavior.

2        FIRST CONSEQUENCE FOR POOR BEHAVIOR
If a student’s behavior does not improve after the first verbal warning, they will be given a form of “timeout or reflection time”.  The timeout should be a quiet, secluded time of 5 minutes for the student to consider their actions away from the rest of the class.

3        SECOND CONSEQUENCE FOR POOR BEHAVIOR
Teacher and student will meet for a conference on why the student is unable to abide by the rules and expectations of the classroom and come up with a plan to deal with the unwanted behavior.  Possible solutions include:  work time in a different classroom and loss of privileges.  The Elementary Assistant Principal should be notified at this stage.

4        FINAL CONSEQUENCE FOR POOR BEHAVIOR
If a student fails to respect the rules and expectations of the classroom after a teacher has implemented the first three steps of the discipline plan, the teacher will then make an appointment for the student to discuss their behavioral problems with the parents and teacher present. The teacher will contact the student’s parents and explain what happened, and the difficulties the student is having with respecting the rules of the classroom, and make the appointment. The teacher will notify the Elementary Assistant Principal of this step. At the meeting, the student should explain to the parents and the teacher the reason for the poor behavior.

5        REFERRAL TO ADMINISTRATION
If the poor behavior continues after the above steps have been applied, the student should be referred to the Elementary Assistant Principal, Ms. Cristiana Banegas. Ms. Banegas will conference with the Head of School and an appropriate course of action will be decided upon. The consequences may include one or a combination of the following:
·         IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION
·         CONFERENCE WITH THE HEAD OF SCHOOL AND PARENTS
·         A BEHAVIOR CONTRACT
·         OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION

In the event of an extreme violation of school expectations, any of the above steps may be skipped. The Administration reserves the right to attend to extreme cases of poor behavior at any time.
