March 25th - March 29th

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

It is starting to get hot in the afternoon. Please remember to have your child bring in a refillable water bottle and a hat or cap will also be a good idea. Please make sure to put bug spray and sunscreen on a daily basis.

Parents please take note that this Friday, March 29th is a professional development day for teachers. This day is an early dismissal and students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.

This is the last week for Our Read-a-Thon. The children need to write the name of the book he/she is reading, the number of pages, and the activity they chose for the book. This paper has to be in their folders every day. Please take the time to motivate your child into reading, reading, and reading! This competition will last until March 29, and the winners of each grade will receive a prize from our DPTO.

Believe it or not, Easter is just right around the corner. We are requesting for each child to bring 12 empty plastic eggs. These eggs will be used for our hunt. More information about this celebration will be coming to you the following week.

This week your child will be inquiring in the following:

This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Walls with various chants and activities. The spelling challenge will be on Friday, March 29th. The five new words that we will be introducing this week are:

such
because
turn
here
why

Reading and Writing will be tied up together for the
following weeks. Last quarter we focused on Informative
Writing. For this last quarter we will be discussing make-
believe or fantasy. We are going to start with a unit on Fairy Tales. The children will be exposed to a variety of
very well-known fairy tales and we will be discussing different versions of them.

We will be wrapping our chapter of Two-Digit Addition
and Subtraction. We will be conducting a variety of mixed
exercises in which students will have to add or subtract. We will be having our Chapter 8 Test on Thursday March 28th.  You may want to practice with your child at home. If you do, please emphasize that we always need to start with the ones place.

In Science we are going to continue discussing the scientific method. We started to get ready for our Science Fair which will be held on April 5th. Last week we conducted different experiments in our classrooms. Ask your child how much they have learend and you will be amazed! The children are having so much fun learning and being little scientists. On this day we would like to have the students to come dressed as a little scientist. Be creative!!
