Week Nov. 14 - 18

We hope you enjoyed your weekend! Please read all the information below!

This Friday is an early dismissal. Children will leave at 11:45 a.m.We will celebrate Thanksgiving on November 23rd by having a Thanksgiving lunch. Please look for a note that will come soon. If you would like to contribute with this celebration let us know so we can get together. Thanks to Joselyn Tejerina for volunteering in helping us out.
This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Wall words with various chants and activities. The spelling challenge will be on Friday this week! 

Spelling words:   called, who, am, girl, now 






The students will read and listen to two informational texts on the first Thanksgiving and then they will compare and contrast the two texts. 




This week, your child will write a piece on what they are thankful for. 



The students will continue learning about the weather. They will research different temperatures around the world. They will also learn about the major types of clouds.

This week, your child will start working on learning subtraction strategies such as counting back.
Understand subtraction

F.1     Subtract with pictures - numbers up to 10
F.2     Subtraction sentences - numbers up to 10
F.3     Subtraction sentences using number lines - numbers up to 10

MIDTERM PROGRESS REPORTS 

Progress reports will go home this Friday, November 18. Please read and discuss the report with your child. The report needs to be signed and returned to school. If you wish to conference with a teacher, please do not hesitate to contact the school to set up an appointment. They must be signed and returned to school by Monday, November 21.

Presentation for Parents - We cordially invite all DS school parents to for a presentation that will be given by the Lic. Manuel Morales on the topic “Diligence and Discipline”.

This presentation will take place on Wednesday, November 16, at 8:00 a.m.,in the Conference Room.

The school will be providing some refreshments.

We hope you will be able to attend!

For Discovery School, it is very important to teach our students about sharing and helping others. Angelitos Del Dia is a perfect way to help show our kids just how easy this can be and how we can make a difference in our community.
"Angelitos del Dia" helps newborn babies born at Materno Infantil Hospital here in Tegucigalpa. They provide moms with newborn essentials (blankets, pajamas, socks, hats, wash cloths, towels, diapers, baby wipes, baby soap and baby shampoo).
Your child will be taking an empty bag home this week. Please feel free to donate as many items as you wish by placing them in the bag. Send the bag back by November 28th.

Our Choir and Jazz wolves have been invited to entertain the attendees to Casa David´s silent auction on Sunday, November 20.

Our annual Christmas bazaar is taking soon! For additional information if you´d like to participate send an email to discovery.bazaar@gmail.com


It is always the season to open our hearts and share with those around us that need it most. It has been a tradition at Discovery School for students to come together and contribute in assembling baskets of goods for our support personnel.  We are asking for your cooperation in sending the following:
 
First Grade: 
1-5 lbs of sugar 
Please feel free to send any additional goodies that you want to share with our devoted staff, such as canned goods, instant soups, cookies and crackers, or anything else that does not require refrigeration.  Please send these items no later than Friday, December 2. Your cooperation will be deeply appreciated.
