Week 32 March 24-28

March 24, 2014

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend.
I would like to remind all parents how important it is for all students to come to school with a water bottle filled with water every day. These next few months are the warmest months of the year. Your child's learning will benefit from water. To learn more, please visit Feeding the Brain for Academic Success: How Nutrition and Hydration Boost Learning. It would also be beneficial for your child to come to school with a hat and sunscreen already applied. Please make sure everything your child brings to school is labeled.

Our class had a fantastic time at Chiminike, thanks to the moms and dads that accompanied us on our trip.

Our Easter Celebration is right around the corner, please send in 1 dozen plastic eggs.

This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts

Phonics- This week's words are around, farm, three, small, can´t and also. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities.

Reading- We will be wrapping up our Fairy Tale unit by presenting 2 short plays to Nursery and Kindergarten. This week,  the class will begin  reading a story entitled 'Lean and Bob' by Simon James.

Writing- Your child will begin writing an opinion piece about one of the books he/she has read. First, we will begin by discussing the books we have read in or out of the classroom and give reasons why we like these books. Each student will choose a book and brainstorm reasons why he/she likes this book. We will review the purpose of opinion writing. The students will use the writing process to complete this task.

Math- The class will continue inquiring into time this week. Your child will determine what events take place in the morning, afternoon and evening, and compare and estimate the length of time it takes to complete various activities. The class will be investigating how to read and use schedules.

Social Studies- The class will be inquiring into needs and wants, and goods and services this week.
