Week 33 March31- April 4

March 31,2014

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I would like to remind all parents how important it is for all students to come to school with a water bottle filled with water every day. These next few months are the warmest months of the year. Your child's learning will benefit from water. To learn more, please visit Feeding the Brain for Academic Success: How Nutrition and Hydration Boost Learning. It would also be beneficial for your child to come to school with a hat and sunscreen already applied. Please make sure everything your child brings to school is labeled.

The students will be presenting The 3 Little Pigs and Jackie and the Beanstalk on Tuesday at 8:15. Both are very short plays. I hope you can make it.

The class will be going on a field trip next Wednesday, April 9th. We will be heading off to  Banco Centroamericano sports club to celebrate Easter. I will be sending home a permission slip later on in the week. Let me know if you would like to join us. Please make sure that he/she brings back the signed permission slip to school by Tuesday, April 8th.

Please remember to send in 1 dozen plastic Easter Eggs for our Easter Egg hunt

This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
Phonics- This week's words are set, put, does, another, end, and school. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities. The spelling challenge this Friday will include these words plus the 5 words from last week.

Reading- This week the classes will be reading a story entitled 'Lean and Bob' by Simon James. Your child will be using the story to explore comprehension. We will also be reading a poem titled SunFlakes by Frank Asch, identifying how words and phrases in poems suggest feelings and / or appeal to our senses.

Writing-Your child will be finishing up his/her opinion piece about one of the books they read during the Read-A-Thon. We will then begin learning how to write an explanatory piece.

Math- The class will be wrapping up Chapter 6 Time. We will begin Chapter 11Addition and Subtraction Facts up to 18.

Social Studies- This week the classes are inquiring into Goods and Services.
