October 7, 2013

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a fun weekend!

Today the students will be taking the first part of the Reading test for MAP.

The ENEE has published that there will be NO electricity on Tuesday October 8. We encourage parents to pack snacks and lunch for students that do NOT require refrigeration or heating.

A reminder that the next two weeks are short weeks. There is no school on Monday, October 14th and Monday, October 21st.

'Book Character Day' is not too far away. We would like to remind you that your child will be encouraged to come dressed like his/her favorite book character on Wednesday, October 31st and be ready to present his/her costume and book to the class. There are a few links to websites that show how to make homemade costumes under the 'Links' heading for the parents who are thinking of making a costume.

Your child will inquire into the following this week:

Language Arts

Phonics- This week’s words are more, see, go, write, and two. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older ones with various chants and activities. There will be a 'Spelling Challenge' on Friday, October 11th.

Writing- Your child will be inquiring into prewriting by exploring how to plan his/her writing. He/she will also write a short informative piece on Christopher Columbus.

NO ELECTRICITY ON TUESDAY – The ENEE has published that there will be no electricity in our school on Tuesday, October 8. We encourage parents to pack snack and lunch for students that does NOT require refrigeration or heating.

DONATIONS NEEDED: “Ya Tengo Donde Escribir” is an organization aiming to help children from public schools that cannot afford notebooks. In order to help, the organization makes notebooks out of cereal boxes and pages from used notebooks. They are now collecting cereal boxes until November 20, and we encourage our students and teachers to bring cereal boxes from their homes. At the end of the contest, the grade that brought the most boxes will be awarded a pizza party or ice cream party! Please help us help those in need!
