Week 37- May 13th-17th


Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a very nice weekend, especially our Moms!

A big thank you to all the parents and DPTO for organizing the teacher's lunch on Friday. It was delicious and much appreciated!
We would like to congratulate 5 students who have dedicated much time to practicing their math skills with IXL- Isabella, Pamela, Claudia, David, and James. Way to go guys!
The students will continue doing their MAP assessments this week; Monday and Friday. Please make sure that your child comes to school well rested and has eaten a healthy breakfast. Please make sure they also come to school with a water bottle filled with fresh water.
There are a number of activities happening at school this month, like the annual garage sale, Chronicles of Discovery Gala, and the general assembly.Our summer camp is also back, beginning  June 10th. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren), please stop by the office to pick up the registration form or access the form on our website (www.discoveryschool.edu.hn).Great discounts are available! Please visit the administration blog to learn more about these events.
Last, your child does not need to bring a snack to school this Monday, May 13th. Snack will be provided for all the first graders.
This week, your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
Phonics-Your child will be starting to review all the words taught earlier this year through various chants and activities. On Fridays, the students will be using the words they reviewed to spell new words and/or be asked to write sentences made from the words on the Word Wall.
Reading-The class will be reading information texts about plants and animals this week in connection with our science unit. The students will be focusing on retelling information in their own words and identifying the main idea.
Writing-Your child will be writing information pieces this week as well as writing a narrative.

Math-The class will be finishing up chapter 12 this week. It would benefit your child to review his/her double and ten facts daily, as well as do all the subtraction questions on IXL by the end of the week.

Science- The class will continue examining different features that help plants and animals survive.
