Week 35-April 29th-May 3rd


Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a great weekend!
A reminder that the first graders will be going on a field trip on Monday, April 29th. Please make sure that your child returns the signed permission slip with the money to the teacher on Monday if he/she has not done so already. Also, please ensure that your child wear his/her Discovery shirt on that day.
There is no school on Wednesday, May 1st.
Last, we hope to see on at the Dicovery Bingo Day, Saturday, May 4th! Lunch will be sold starting at 11:00 am. The game starts at 1:30 p.m. To learn more about this event, along with the Discovery camp, please see the Administration blog.

This week, your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
Phonics- This week's words are move, try, kind, hard, picture, and again. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities.
Reading-The class will be focusing reading a familiar passage with fluency and expression. The students will be reading and acting out the play, 'Do You Live in a Nest?' by Carmen Tafolla. The kids will be presenting this play to the lower grades at the end of the week.
Writing- Your child will be learning how to write a narrative. The week, the students will be inquiring into characters and their traits.

Math- This week your child will be learning various strategies to help him/her do mental math. The class will also be learning to add three numbers and how making a table is a good strategy to use to solve a problem. In IXL, your child would benefit from practicing the following skills; First Grade-Addition-B.11-B.14, B.16-B.18.

Social Studies- The class will inquire into natural resources, where they come from, and how what part they play in our lives.

Homework
Monday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
                    -Read and practice reading his/her part for the play
Math- Funny Money worksheet

Tuesday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
                     -Read and practice reading his/her part for the play
Math-  Applying Addition Facts worksheet

Thursday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
                     -Read and practice reading his/her part for the play
Math- Addition worksheet
Phonics- Study for Friday's spelling challenge
