Week 29-March 11th-15th

Dear Parents,

We hope the everyone had a great weekend!
Thank you to all the parents that have donated trinkets and notebooks, as well as letting us borrow your maps, globes, atlases, and maps. The students, and us, greatly appreciate your help!
This week your child will be going on a field trip to Chiminike on Thursday, March 14th. The students will be watching a performance based on the 3 Little Little Pigs. We will be sending home a permission slip with all the information on Tuesday. Please have your child bring it back signed before Thursday otherwise he/she will not be able to join us. If you would like to join us on that day, check the box on the form. We will need 2 parents from each class. Please have your child wear his/her Discovery shirt on that day.
Please remember to have your child bring in a dozen plastic Easter eggs this week if you have not done so already.
The DPTO is putting on the annual Family Movie Night this Thursday, March 14th. Please visit the DPTO blog (link found on the right hand side of this blog) for more information.
Just a reminder that there is no school this Friday, March 15th.

This week, your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
Phonics- This week's words are also, around, farm, three, and small. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities.
Reading- Your child will be creating a story map for the fairy tale he/she has been reading in class. Your child will be asked to identify the characters, setting, problem, beginning, middle, and end, and to identify one fairy tale element from the story. You can help your child with these skills by asking him/her to tell you about these elements after he/she has read a story.
Writing- Your child will be exploring adjectives this week. You can help your child with this skill by asking him/her to identify the adjectives in a book he/she is reading.

You can help your child with this skill by asking him/her to count out various amounts of change (no quarters yet and value should be under $1).
