Week 27- February 25th-29th

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a great weekend!

The first graders will be having their pictures taken at 10:55 am tomorrow. If you would like to purchase individual or group pictures please bring the money and form tomorrow (the form was sent home Friday).
All parents are invited to the Discovery Science fair on Wednesday, February 27th. The first grade students will be presenting their experiments between 8-8:50 am in the classrooms. This is also an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m. Your child only needs to bring a snack to school on that day. 
Last, we ask that all students please bring back their signed progress report to their teacher as soon as possible.
This week, your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts 
Phonics-  This week's words are before, line, right, too, means, old, and any. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities.

Reading-Your child will be inquiring into a number of skills this week in reading. First, your child will be learning how to read and follow directions as he/she performs his/her science experiment. Your child will also be exploring how time affects fairy tales by reading two different Cinderella stories; one from the past and one from the present. Last, your child will be working on reading with expression and tone by performing a reader's theater based on different fairy tales.
Writing- Your child will be working with his/her science project group on preparing all the necessary conclusions and write-ups.

Math- The class will be exploring various graphs this week. They will be examining bar graphs, picture graphs, and tally mark graphs.

Science- The class will be preparing for the science fair this week.

Monday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
Math- Making Graphs worksheet
Phonics- ABC Order activity

Tuesday
Reading-for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
Math- Bars and Objects worksheet
Phonics- Fill in the Blanks activity

Wednesday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log
             -Create a fairy tale jigsaw puzzle (template provided)

Thursday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
Math-Using Tally Marks worksheet
Phonics- Study for Friday's spelling challenge
