Week 25- February 11th-15th



Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a great  weekend and is ready for the long weekend, which is just around the corner.
To start, we would like for your help. Ms. Colette and Ms. Magda would like to ask for your help. We are asking for a few supplies for our classroom. Here is a list of things we need:

  • large gallon-size ziploc bags with a zipper
  • small ziploc bags with a zipper
  • paper towels 
  • tissue- Kleenex
  • Lysol wipes
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated!
Just a reminder that the progress and MAP reports will be going home this Thursday, February 14th. There will also be no school this Friday, February 15th, and Monday, February 18th.
This week, your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts 
Phonics- This week's words are sentence, man, say, think, and good. Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities. The spelling challenge will be on Thursday, February 14th.
Reading-The students will reading non-fiction material about President's Day. Your child will be learning facts and asked to retell information in his/her words about various presidents. We have attached a link that can help you explain the importance of this day to your child:

Writing- Your child will be writing a short paragraph about being a president.

Math- The class will be inquiring into numbers that are less than/more than a given number. The following skills should be practiced on IXL- First Grade math skills- Comparing- G.1-G.4. Your child can also review past skills; place value, addition, subtraction, fractions, and counting and number patterns.

Science- This week's science class will finishing up liquids and solids. Your child will be asked to create a poster about his/her favorite liquid or solid.

Homework
Monday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
Writing- Write one or more facts about a president.
Activity- make a Valentine's mailbox (for the cards) and cards for Valentine's Day, February 14th. We ask that students bring their project to school by Thursday. You can find information about how to make a mailbox on the following site: Valentine's mailbox
** If your child is handing out Valentine cards/ treats he/she only needs to bring enough for their section (1-A hands out to 1-A, 1-B hands out to 1-B). There are 16 students in each section; therefore 16 Valentine's are needed.

Tuesday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log.
Math- 1 More/1Less, 10 More/10 Less worksheet
Phonics- Unscramble the Word activity

Wednesday
Reading-Read for at least 10 minutes and fill out the reading log
Math-Using Objects worksheet
Phonics-Study for the spelling challenge

Reminders
Valentine's mailbox and cards- due Thursday, February 14th
Progress and Map Reports- Thursday, February 14th
No School- Friday, February 15th, and Monday, February 18th
