Week 11- October 22nd-26th

Dear Parents,

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
We would like to thank all the parents who came to the Parent Luncheon on Friday. It was a great success and your child was very proud to share his/her lunchtime with you.
We would like to invite all parents to a morning meeting regarding your child's MAP scores this Thursday, October 25th at 7:30-8:00 am in Ms. Magda's classroom. We will be explaining MAP and how to read your child's results. Then, all the parents are invited to stay and partake in the annual U.N. Day celebrations here at school starting at 8:30a.m. This a very fun and exciting day for all, where parents and children get together to learn about new cultures. Our grade 1 students will be creating a U.N. mural for the event! This is also a half day. All students will be going home at 11:45 a.m.
On Monday, your child will be bringing home a 'Goal Setting' activity that you and your child complete together. Please fill out 2/3 goals for the grade 1 school year. Then, write ways on how these goals can be achieved. We will go over these goals together during the Student Led Conferences this Friday October 26th. There is no school for students on that day. You will be allotted a time during which you and your child can come to class together. During this time, your child will show you around the classroom and explain what he/she has been learning. It is also the time you will receive your child's report card and when the teacher will discuss with you any concerns that she might have regarding your child's learning. There will be a slip going home with the siblings of other Discovery students so the teachers do not schedule meeting at the same time. All the other children will get a slip telling the parents what time the conference will be. If the time is inconvenient for you, please let the teacher know.
'Book Character Day' is not too far away. We would like to remind you that your child will be encouraged to come dressed like his/her favorite book character on Wednesday, October 31st and be ready to present his/her costume and book to the class. There is a link to 'Country Living' that shows how to make homemade costumes under the 'Links' heading for the parents who are thinking of making a costume.
A quick reminder to all parents to check your child's specials teachers' blogs weekly.
