Week 5- September 10th-14th, 2012

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!
This Thursday, September 13th, the school will be having the Independence Day celebrations starting at 9:00 am. We will begin the celebrations by having a traditional Honduran breakfast in the classroom. Each student is responsible to bring in his/her assigned food item. These items will be assigned Monday and a note will be sent home in your child's folder. Please check the folder. This is a half day. Students will be going home at 11:45 am. Your child does not need to bring in a snack for break or lunch that day. Your child is encouraged to wear traditional Honduran clothing or blue and white. Parents are welcome to join us at the Independence Day assembly at 10:00am. Traditional games and will follow the assembly.
There is no school this Friday, September 14th, and Monday, September 17th. Classes resume on Tuesday, September 18th.
This week, your child will inquire into the following:

Language Arts
 •Phonics- There will be no new words this week. Students will be reviewing last weeks words,  we, when, your, can and said plus reviewing other Fry words through various activites and chants. This week there will be no spelling challenge due to the short week. Your child will have the spelling challenge with these words on Thursday, September 13th.

 •Reading- This week your child will be reading Father Bear Comes Home Else Holmelund. Your child be learning the reading skills of identifying the problem and sequencing (beginning, middle, and end)with this text.

 •Writing- Your child will be inquring into how to stretch-out an unfamiliar word when writing.

Math- This week your child will be starting Chatper 2. Your child will be learning how to solve joining/ addition problems. There are math on-line activities under the 'Links' heading that your child can play to practice addition.

Theme- Social Studies-- This week your child will be finishing the unit Citizenship. He/she will finishing the Citizenship quilt. The class will also be starting the next unit, All About Me. Your child will be identifing his/her role in his/her immediate family.

Monday
  •  Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Math-  Joining worksheet
  • Phonics- Beginning Sounds worksheet


Tuesday
  •  Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Math- Joining worksheet
  • Phonics- Rhyming worksheet

Wednesday
  • Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Phonics- study for spelling challenge


PLEASE REMEMBER

Class Fee- Please pay the $100 class fee as soon as possible
Independence Day Celebration- Thursday, September 13th
Early Release- Thursday, September 13th, 11:45 am
No School- Friday, September 14th and Monday, September 17th.
DPTO Meeting- Wednesday, September 12 at 7:45 am. Please come to this meeting, especially if you want to help out and be involved in the U. N. Day Celebration in October.
