Week 3- August 27th-31st

Dear Parents,


We hope that you all had a wonderful weekend!
We would like to remind those parents who have not yet payed the class fee of L2000 to do so as soon as possible.
There will be early dismissal on Wednesday, August 29th. All students will be dismissed at 11:45a.m. Your child only needs to bring a snack to school on that day.
The Discovery Elementary teachers, as well as some Middle and High School teachers, will be attending a MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) professional development workshop on Thursday and Friday, September 6th and 7th. This means that there will be no school for Elementary students (grades K-5th) on those days. You can find out more about the training by reading the page entitled 'MAP On Site Teacher Training'.
Last, please make sure all of your child's personal belongings have his/her name written on them.
Your child will be inquiring into the following this week;

Language Arts
 •Phonics- This week's words are but, not, what, all and were. Your child will be learning the spelling and meaning of these words plus reviewing other Fry words through various activites and chants. Please remember that the Spelling Challange is on Firday.

 •Reading- This week your child will be reading Kiss for Little Bear by Jessica Edwards and Swimmy by Leo Lionni. Your child be learning the reading skills of predicting, sequencing the main events, and creating mental images from print.

 •Writing- Your child will be inquring into how to use pictures to generate ideas for writing.

Math- This week your child will compare a given number to five and ten, order numbers through twelve, identify pattern units translate shape patterns into letters and solve problems by using data from a picture.

Theme- Social Studies-- This week your child will continue inquiring into Citizenship. Your child will be learning about respect, responsibility and courage. He/she will use his/her knowledge of one of the themes and draw a 'patch' for our 'Citizenship' quilt at the end of the week.


Homework

Monday
  • Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Math- 'Comparing 5 and 10' worksheet
  • Writing- Write a message to your teacher about what you like most about the classroom/school. The message must include spaces.

Tuesday
  • Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Math- 'Ordering Numbers Through 12' worksheet
  • Phonics- Write the words in alphabetical order worksheet

Wednesday
  • Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Math- Problem Solvingworksheet
  • Phonics- Write the words in alphabetical order worksheet

Thursday
  • Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
  • Math- 1and2 More Than worksheet
  • Phonics- Study for the Spelling Challange

PLEASE REMEMBER

Class Fee- Please pay the $100 class fee as soon as possible
Early Dismissal- Wednesday, August 29th. Students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
No School- Thursday and Friday, September 6th and 7th.
