Week 20- December 12th-16th

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a great weekend and are ready for the last week of school before the Christmas break. We would like to remind all parents of the following:
On Wednesday, December 14th, your child does not need to bring a lunch.
On Thursday, December 15th, both classes will be celebrating Christmas. We ask that each child wear his/her pajamas to school on that day. He/she can also bring his/her favorite blanket, stuffed animal, or any other sleeping item he/she uses. The classes will be doing Christmas crafts and activites that day. We would also like to remind you that if your child would like to participate in the Christmas gift exchange then he/she is responsible to bring a wrapped gift of no more than 150 lemps to school. Girls bring for girls and boys bring for boys. The children will be having a Christmas Breakfast celebration on that day, no snacks are required to be brought from home.
Also, the annual Discovery Song Fest will be held on Thursday, December 14th, at 6:00 P.M. We expect all students to be here at 5:30 P.M. Please remember that there is heavy traffic at that time and that song fest will start promptly at 6:00 P.M. Your child must wear black bottoms and a red, green, OR white top.
Last, please remember to send a 1.5 KG bag of sugar to school with your child as soon as possible for the annual Christmas food drive.
This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

Please remember that this week the spelling challenge will be on Thursday and that it is important that you review these words nightly with your child.
  • Reading-This week your child will be learning the meaing of a main idea and connecting information found in books to his/her own experience. He/she will be learning these reading skills by reading two Christmas books, one non-ficiton and one fiction.
  •  Writing- Your child will be writing a letter to Santa that he/she will bring home so you, the parent, can post it. Your child will be reviewing the parts of a letter and expected to write all his/her letter with all the parts; a greeting/opening, a body, and a closing.

Math- The class will begin Chapter 5, Geometry and Fractions. The class will continue focusing on shapes and how a flip, slide, or turn affects the shape.
