Week 15 November 7th-11th

Dear Parents,

Hope everyone had a relaxing weekend and are ready for another fun and exciting week!
This week Ms. Magda will be back teaching the 1A class. Ms. Ivonne will still be assisting the class once in a while but Ms. Magda will be the class's homeroom teacher starting this week. If anyone would like to meet with Ms. Magda, please feel free to make an appointment through Ms. Carolina or email her directly. She will be available to meet with parents before 7:30 am during any day of the week or Wednesday-Friday, between 10:15 am-10:55 am.
We would like to ask for your help this week. 1A and 1B aare looking for airplane headsets for our listening stations. If you happen to have a spare set of headphones that you get on airplanes, can you please have your child bring them to school A.S.A.P. please? If you would like them back, please have yoru child tell his/her teacher. Also, your child must bring a wire coat hanger to class before Thursday, November 10th, for a project.
This week, your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
  • Phonics- Students will be reviewing all the sight words that are up on the Word Wall and learning new ones through various chants and activities.
Words for this week:   how, their, if, will, up, other

  • Reading-Your child will be learning about the reading skills predicting and creating mental images from print. The class will be exploring these skills through reading their first novel, Nate the Great by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat and illustrated by Marc Simont.
  • Writing-Your child will be continuing constructing proper sentences by using the 3 characteristics of a sentence; 1)A sentence must begin with a capital letter. 2) A sentence must end with an end mark. 3) A sentence must be complete. Please practice these writing skills daily with your child. The class will also be learning how to write a letter this week and editing sentences for capitals and punctuation.
Math- This week the class will be finishing Chapter 4. Your child will be inquiring into fact families, the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction and solving problems by either choosing subtraction or addition. Please have your child practice his/her addition and subraction double facts daily using mental math or a number line. There are also a few math games posted on the bottom of the page that can help your child with addition and subtraction.

Theme-Science-The class in continuing to be working on the Weather unit. This week the students will be observing and discussing cloud cover and precipitation, wind speed and measuring the temperature of water. Your child will be making a weather book, a flag and doing his/her first experiment this week.

Writing-Letter Writing worksheet- put the letter in the correct order
Reading-Read 10 minutes

Thursday
Phonics-Study for the spelling challenge
Reading-Read 10 minutes

Reminders

No Lunch- Your child does not need to bring a lunch to school Monday, November 7th.
Earphones- Please have your child bring in any spare set of airplane style headphones to class.
Hangers-Please have your child bring a wire coat hanger to class before Thursday, November 10th.
