Week 9 October 3rd - 7th








Dear First Grade Parents,


Hope you had a great long weekend! This week the first graders will be working on the following:
  • Language Arts
  1. Reading-The class will be reading Miss Nelson is Missing.  We will  continue to examine and explain the skill 'sequencing'.We will be identifying the characters, setting, problem and solution.  
  2. Writing- The class will continue applying the characteristics of a sentence in their writing. The 3 characteristics of a sentence are 1)Every sentence must start with a capital letter 2) Every sentence must end with an end mark 3) Every sentence must be complete and make sense.
  3. Phonics- The new words for this week are; from, or, one, had, by. The class will also be examining and writing tongue twisters.
  • Math- This week the class will be starting chapter 3, Strategies for Addition Facts Up to 12. Please read the letter at the bottom of this weeks blog to learn more about this chapter and how you can help your child at home.
  • Social Studies- The class will be wrapping up our unit on Family and Cultures.

Tuesday:
Phonics: Short -vowel Worksheet
Read 10 minutes

Wednesday:
Math: Addition Worksheet
                                              Read 10 minutes
                                             
                                              Thursday:
                                              Language Arts: worksheet- Spelling
                                              Read 10 minutes

Reminders
Book Character Day- Book Character Day will be celebrated on Monday October 31st. Your child needs to choose a character from a book and dress up like that character. Your child will be expected to tell the class about the character he/ she has chosen. Your child´s costume can be as elborate or as simple as you decide to make it. Using your imagination and creativity is part of the fun.


Library- Students need to remember to bring their library books back every Friday.
