Week 34- April 11th-April 15th

Dear Parents,
We hope everyone had a pleasant weekend and are ready for the last week before Semana Santa.
The first graders will be going to Lucia's House on Thursday to celebrate Easter. They will be leaving the school at 9:00 a.m. and return at 2:00 p.m. Lucia has a swimming pool and so we ask that your child bring the appropriate attire for the day. All first graders must bring:
          -sunblock
          -hat
          -water bottle
          -swimming suits (if your child is swimming)
          -floaties (if your child cannot swim in the deep end)
          -change of cloths
Please send in the 150 Lemps for lunch as soon as possible.
Just a reminder that there is no school on April 15th. Students return to school on April 27th.
Last, we have been told that there are many requests from parents to create a subscription button on the blog so the blogs can be sent to your email accounts as soon as they are posted. Ms. Colette and Ms. Magda have added the button on our blog. It is located on the right hand of the blog. Please subscribe to it and you will have the blogs sent to your inbox as soon as they are posted.
This week, your child will inquire into the following;

Language Arts
  • Phonics- This weeks words are much, before, line, right and too. The class will be learning the spelling of these words plus reviewing older words daily through chants and various activites. The spelling challenge will be on Thursday, April 14th.
  • Reading-The class will be learning more about the reading skill 'reading and following directions'. He/she will be learning this skill through doing a number of experiments during the them block.
  • Writing- Your child will finishing his/her book this week. Your child will publish and share his/her book with a friend. He/she will also be evaluating his/her book, as well as his/her classmate's book.
Math- This week the students will be reviewing and completing Chapter 9. Please review with your child how to count a group of coins up to 99 cents daily. A tip, have your child first sort the coins according to their value before he/she starts to count. Remember, start couting the coins with the greatest value first.

Theme-Science-Solids and Liquids- This week your child will explore the properties of liquids.Your child will be performing various experiments using different types of liquids through out the week.

-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Phonics- spelling worksheet and study for the spelling challenge

Semana Santa
If your child would to keep a journal about his/her holiday, please have your child do so. We would love to have him/her share the journal after the holidays. Also, your child should be reading at least 10 minutes each day during the holidays. Also, your child can review various reading and math skills by playing the games under 'links'

Reminders
  • Easter Field Trip-Thursday, April 14th-We will be spending the day at the Chimirri's House
  • DPTO-check the DPTO website for up coming events and information. DPTO
  • Please label ALL of your child's belongings with a permanent marker; lunch boxes, containers, sweaters, water bottles, bags, etc.
  • Water Bottles- Your child must come to school with a water bottle every day.
  • Library- Please make sure that your child brings his/her library book to school on his/her assigned library day.
