Week 32-March 28th- April 1st


Dear Parents,
We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing long weekend!
This week to go with our Math unit, we will be holding a small 'General Store' on Friday. For this activity we are asking  you to donate small trinkets ( example tops, marbles, pencils, rings, bracelets, things that you would put in a party bag).
Easter is right around the corner, please send one dozen plastic eggs  to school as soon as possible. You may find them at Yip, Mas x Menos, and Debbie's Corner. 
Last, if you would like to request a conference with us feel free to do so.
This week, your child will be inquiring into the following

Language Arts
  • Phonics- This weeks words are name, good, sentence, man, and think. The class will be learning the spelling of these words plus reviewing older words daily through chants and various activites.
  • Reading-The class will be reading The Secret Message by Eric Carle this week. Students will be doing a picture walk with the book to predict the story's events. Your child will be writing a secret message to a friend.  Each student will have to follow the clues to find the hidden prize.
  • Writing- Your child will be using the Eric Carle story to lean more about the prewriting stage of writing, as well as learning to write to entertian. Each student will be asked to create a new ending for the story.  
Math- This week the students will be exploring chapter 9, Money. In this chapter the students are introduced to the penny, nickel and dime. They will be identifying the value of a group of dimes, nickels and pennies through 99 cents. You could help your child become better familiar with counting money by reviewing skip counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s daily. You can also help your child by having him/her play the games that are listed under 'links'.

Theme-Science-Solids and Liquids- This week your child will explore how shapes affect the movement of solids, the hardness of solids, solids in water, and he/she will investigate whether an object is attracted to a magnet.

-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Math- Mistery Math worksheet
-Phonics-write words in alphabetical order

Tuesday
                              -Reading- Read 10 minutes and reading comprehension activity
                              -Math- Hopscotch worksheet

Wednesday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Language Arts- students must make a small price for their hidden message, for example your child can draw a picture, write a letter, make a bracelet, a paper airplane, a fan, etc.

Thursday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Phonics-study for spelling challenge
-Math- Subtraction Time practice sheet

Friday
-Reading 10 minutes
-Math- If your child would like to have extra addition or subtraction practice help, he/she will be given a choice to take 1 math practice sheet home for the weekend. This is not mandatory homework. Your child will get to choose if he/she would like the extra help.

We are collecting empty 'Vanish' plastic detergents tubs for Easter. Please have your child bring them to school if you happen to have one/some. 


Reminders
  • Easter Field Trip-Thursday, April 14th-We will be spending the day at the Chimirri's House, more information will be coming soon.
  • DPTO-check the DPTO website for up coming events and information. DPTO
  • Please label ALL of your child's belongings with a permanent marker; lunch boxes, containers, sweaters, water bottles, bags, etc.
  • Water Bottles- Your child must come to school with a water bottle every day.
  • Library- Please make sure that your child brings his/her library book to school on his/her assigned library day.
