Week 31- March 21st- March 25th

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a fun and relaxing long weekend!
A reminder to all parents that report cards will be sent home this Friday, March 25th. Friday is also a half day for all students.
This week, your child will be inquiring into the following

Language Arts
  • Phonics- This weeks words are give, most, after, things, and hour. The class will be learning the spelling of these words plus reviewing older words daily through chants and various activites.
  • Reading-The class will be reading Rooster's Off to See the World by Eric Carle this week. Students will be doing a picture walk with the book to predict the story's events. If you have any Eric Carle books at home, we are asking that you please send them in for sharing. Please remember,your child should be reading at least 10 minutes everyday. This is his/her homework.
  • Writing- Your child will be using the Eric Carle story to lean more about the prewriting stage of writing, as well as learning to write to entertian. Each student will be asked to create a new ending for the story.  
Math- The class will be finishing chapter 8 this week. Your child will also have a mini introduction to chapter 9, Money. The class will have a chance to play and discuss American money. You can help your child better understand American money by showing them the different coins and bills that people use and introduce him/her to the names used with money. Giving your child an opportunity to examine and discuss Honduran money is also important. Show your child the various coins and bills and explain to him/her the various pictures and people on the money. The class will also be reviewing doubles, sums that make 10, and counting forward and backward by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s. Please be reviewing these skills with your child nightly.

Theme-Science-Solids and Liquids- This week the class will be starting a new science unit, Solids and Liquids. Your child will be observing, comparing, sorting, and experimenting with various solids.

-Language Arts- Alphabetical Order worksheet

Tuesday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
- Math- Chapter 8 review worksheet

Wednesday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Language Arts- worksheet

Thursday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Phonics-study for spelling challenge
-Math- Subtraction Time practice sheet

Friday
-Reading 10 minutes
-Math- If your child would like to have extra addition or subtraction practice help, he/she will be given a choice to take 1 math practice sheet home for the weekend. This is not mandatory homework. Your child will get to choose if he/she would like the extra help.

We are collecting empty 'Vanish' plastic detergents tubs for Easter. Please have your child bring them to school if you happen to have one/some. 


Reminders
  • Report Cards and Half Day- Friday, March 25th
  • DPTO-check the DPTO website for up coming events and information. DPTO
  • Please label ALL of your child's belongings with a permanent marker; lunch boxes, containers, sweaters, water bottles, bags, etc.
  • Water Bottles- Your child must come to school with a water bottle every day.
  • Library- Please make sure that your child brings his/her library book to school on his/her assigned library day.
