It is that amazing time of the school year when students in grades K-5
will be participating in a reading journey to commemorate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Beginning March 4, students will be reading books, completing activities and
recording their progress not only towards an individual competition but towards
an area goal to fill Dr. Seuss’ hats in Early
Childhood and Elementary. Reading logs
will be distributed next Monday, March 4. Please take the time to motivate your
child into reading, reading, reading! This competition will last until March
29, and the winners of each grade will receive a prize from our DPTO.
All the daddies are
invited to come and have fun playing sports games with your child on Thursday
March 14th to commemorate your day which in Honduras is celebrated
on March 19th. The fun will start from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. First
Grade DADS and kids need to
wear a green shirt. Uncles are welcome if dads are not able to come!! Make sure that you come wearing running shoes, shorts, and a cap. Also bring a water bottle and sunblock!
Reading to the
Kindergarten Students. We will continue to devote one day of the week to read
books to the Kindergarten students for a period of 20 minutes. This is a great
opportunity for the children to practice their reading strategies, improve
their fluency, and use the sight words learned in context. The First Graders
are extremely excited to be the big kids who are getting ready to move on to
second grade. For this activity, we require that the students bring a book from
home that they feel comfortable reading and that would be easy for a 5 year old
to understand. If you do not have a book, we are going to be using one from our
classroom or the school library.
This
week your child will be inquiring in the following:
This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Walls with various

continue practicing Two-Digit Addition and Subtraction. You may want to practice with them at home.
If you do, please emphasize that we always need to start with the ones place.
We will be honoring Dr. Seuss 115th birthday by studying
about his biography and reading books about him. Thank you to those of you
who have already sent books to share with the class. The students are very
excited to share them with their friends but also to read books that are new to
them. The students will choose their favorite book about him and will be
writing about it. One of Dr. Seuss books is called Wacky Wednesday. For this
reason, on Wednesday your child can come to school with Crazy Hair! They will
sure have a blast!
