Dear Parents,
We hope you all had a
fantastic weekend!
Dress Up / Costume Day is here! We are going to be
having a celebration on Wednesday, October 31st. On this day
students will come to school dressed up as their favorite book, or movie
character.
We will also be trick
or treating around school. Some of you will be asked to help us out with
this activity by donating candy and some treats for the students. Ms. Kumagai
(Lianna’s mom) will get in touch with you via the first grade chat.
Fundacion Abrigo: Is an
organization which provides lodging for families from outside Tegucigalpa who
bring their families/patients to the largest state medical facility, Hospital
Escuela. Discovery School in solidarity with Fundacion Abrigo is asking for a
donation of 1 GALON OF DISINFECTANT per family by Wednesday, October 31. Thank
you very much! It is always far better to give than to receive!

This
week, your child will start working on learning subtraction strategies such as
counting back.
We will also continue working on learning addition strategies such as
adding in any order, counting on, adding doubles, adding doubles plus one
/doubles minus one, making ten, adding ten. We will be deciding which one is
the best strategy to use to solve addition problems given.

This week we will be reading the story Room
on the Broom. Children will identify all the rhyming words they can find on the
book. They will also create their own sentence using two rhyming words
This week we will continue writing Personal Narratives. First Grade A will be writing about how
they get ready for school.

Please remember that students will be having a Raz-Kids assignment every
