We are going to continue reading stories from Owl at Home. We are going to be predicting, identifying the setting and talking about Character Traits.

Last week, the children all enjoyed learning about Spiders. They learned a variety of facts, which the students included in their writing pieces. For this week, we will be learning about Owls. The children will write an informative piece about all the facts they will be learning. If you happen to have any books, posters, or any other resource that might be useful for us, it would be greatly appreciated.

We will be starting a new unit in Maps, Legends and Fairy tales. We will be learning and drawing pictorial maps. If you have any maps, globe, compasses, legends, or fairy tales you would like to share, please bring them in and have your child's name on them.

This week we are starting a new chapter. Your child will learn about comparing numbers (greater than, less than) We will be having a Math Test on Thursday, March 1st about Place Value.

Dr. Seuss's birthday is coming up soon! We will be honoring his 114th birthday by studying about his biography and reading books about him. If your child would like to share any of their favorite books, please have your child bring them in. Make sure that your child´s name is written on each book.  On Friday, March 2nd your child can come to school wearing a shirt or any other item from Dr. Seuss.

On Monday, March 5th the children will be taking home an empty booklet in which they will have the chance to become authors and illustrators. They will create their own main character and write a 10 page story that goes along with their characters. Each page should have only one to two sentences. These sentences need to have rhyming words. For example,
Page 1: The pig is wearing a wig. The big wig is pink. Page 2: The pig meets the dragon that is pulling a wagon
These books should be turned in back to school on Friday, April 6th. The children will be reading their books to each other and also to other students from other grades. Be creative and remember that imagination can take you everywhere!

Following this celebration during the week of March 12th – March 16th we will have a different activity every day. I am including the links of the books if you wish to watch them with your child at home.
