Jan 22-26

This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Wall words with various chants and
activities. The spelling challenge will be on Friday, January 26th.
The new words are:

live
me
back
give
most

For this week, we will be diving into the story of Mouse Soup.
We will be discussing story elements. We will be reviewing what a Table of Content is and what it is used for. The children answer comprehension questions after each story.

This week your child will learn more about dividing numbers to their tens and ones. We are going to have our Chapter 5 Math Test this coming Thursday, January 25th. This unit covers strategies for Addition and Subtraction.

Place Values
M.1  Place value models up to 20
M.2  Write numbers as tens and ones up to 20
M.3  Place value models up to 100

We are going to continue with our unit of Measurement. Last week the students were thrilled measuring objects around the classroom. For this week I am requesting a ruler from each student. Please make sure it shows inches and centimeters.

Celebrate the Gift of Friendship- Discovery School has developed a lasting friendship with many of the children at the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage.  We would like to extend an invitation for more members of the Discovery community to develop these friendships.  There are two ways to help:

  1. Join the Community Service Club.  Contact Mrs. Agurcia (cagurcia@discoveryschool.edu.hn) for more about this club.
  2. Donate a pair of tennis shoes or socks for to be given to the children at this year's Valentine's friendship party.

Hearts with the child's name and size are found on the bulletin board on the second floor of the secondary building.  Purchase the shoes or socks and return the item, unwrapped, with the heart tag attached, to Mrs. Agurcia's classroom (Secondary building, Room 7) by Thursday, February 1.
