Dear Parents,
We
hope your holidays were filled with joy and happiness!
It is wonderful to see everyone back
at school! Please remind your child that he/she is returning back to school and
that means that he/she must turn his/her 'thinking switch' on; follow classroom
and school rules and bring his/her folder to school each day with his/her completed
homework. We also know how hard it is to
wake up early again after a long holiday so, we would like to remind all parents the
importance of having your child go to sleep earlier on school days and having a
healthy breakfast before school each morning.
Second quarter report cards will be
going home Friday, January 16th. Parent/teacher conferences
will be held the same day in the afternoon. This will be a half day for students. Conferences will be held on a need
to see basis. If you would like to schedule a conference please let us know.
This week your child will inquire into
the following:
Language Arts
Working with Words- Your child will be reviewing all the
Word Wall Words this week. There will be no spelling challenge
this week.
Reading-The class will
be reading The Little
Engine That Could by
Watty Piper. We will be identifying the
main idea of the story. We will discuss New Year's resolutions. The class will
also begin learning about Martin Luther King.
Writing- Your child
will be writing a personal narrative titled My Christmas Vacation. We will begin to talk about ideas and organization in their writing. This is part of the
6+1 writing Traits.
Math- Students
will solve subtraction and addition problems using the past strategies. Math
centers will be available to practice using different manipulative.
Science- The class will be inquiring
into Solids and Liquids for the next
few weeks. The students will be comparing various solids this week and experimenting
