Dear Parents,
We hope that
everyone had a very relaxing long weekend!
This Wednesday, September 17th, the first
graders will be doing their first MAP assessment! There will be 4 MAP
assessments in total, 2 math and 2 reading tests. If you would like more
information about MAP please visit the pages on your right. We will begin by
taking the first part of the math test.
United Nations Day
is coming soon! The first graders will be examining different cultures in a
couple of weeks. I would like to invite parents to come to school to speak to
the children about your culture. I would like you to speak about the customs,
beliefs, shelter and language of that culture. If you are interested, please
contact me as soon as possible.
This week your
child will be inquiring into the following:
Language
Arts
WWW - This week your child will be reviewing all
the word wall words. He/she will review the words through various chants and
activities.
Reading- This week, students will be reading and
listening to poems. They will discover how poems differ from stories and review
rhyming words. We will be using the poems I
Have a Little Frog and Name Chant Poem.
Writing- Students will be learning about different
pre-writing strategies that will help them organize their thoughts before
writing. They will brainstorm topic and ending sentences.
Math- Students will be inquiring into subtraction
and addition equations. They will also be reviewing all the vocabulary and
skills taught in the past weeks.

MIDTERM REPORTS were issued last Thursday, September 12.
We encourage parents to go over them and discuss them with your child, sign
them and send them back to school. If you would like a conference, and one was
not requested, please call the school to set up an appointment.
MAP FALL TESTING SESSION – Our Map testing session will begin this
Wednesday, September 17. The specific times and dates for our grades will be
published in our blogs. Parent cooperation in making sure our students have a good
breakfast, good sleep and in school on
time is greatly appreciated.
