August 13th-17th

Dear Parents,

We hope that everyone had a great weekend and are ready for the first full week of school! We had a great time meeting everyone last week and are excited to continue meeting all the parents and students who will be coming this week.
This week we will continue going over the daily routines and classroom expectations. We will also continue assigning the reading log as homework, as well as some review work in both Math and Language Arts. For the first week, we will be assigning only 1 page plus reading as homework. Later, each child will be responsible for completing 2 worksheets as well as the reading every night (Monday-Thursday). It is vital that your child completes his/her homework every night and return it back to school the next day. We will be discussing this matter in more detail at the Open House, this Thursday, August 16th, at 7:30 a.m.
If your child has not done so already, we ask that each child bring a waterbottle, book bag and lunch box/bag to school daily. Each item must have the child's name clearly labeled with a pernament maker.
Under the Important Links heading (at the bottom of our blog) you will find a link to the DPTO blog as well as the cafeteria blog. Please refer to them weekly.
Last, we would like to remind all the parents how important it is to read the blog every Monday! The blog is where we will communicate all the important events, weekly teaching and learning objectives and daily homework. PLEASE READ THE BLOG EVERY MONDAY.
This week your child will inquire into the following:

Language Arts
  • Phonics- This week your child will be reviewing the first 25 words from the Fry List. The class will be doing various activities and chants with the words.
  • Reading- This week your child will be reviewing his/her book knowledge. The class will be inquiring into book elements. We will begin by reading the story 'Lion and Mouse' and discussing its characters.
  • Writing- Your child will be exploring sentence writing.
