Week 28, February 20th-24th

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a relaxing long weekend!
We would like to thank the 3 moms for a great Valentine's Day lunch!
We would like to remind all parents of the field trip to Walmart on Tuesday, Feruary 21st in connection with the new Social Studies unit, 'Needs vs. Wants'. We ask that all students wear their Discovery shirts if they have one. We included the name of the shop where parents can purchase the Discovery shirts under the 'Reminders' heading.
Last, we would like to remind all parents to make sure that his/her child bring back the signed Progress report as soon as possible.
This week, your child will inquire into the following:

Language Arts
  • Phonics- The class will be reviewing all the Word Wall words this week through various words activities and chants.
  • Reading- This week your child will be reading In a People House by Dr. Seuss. He/she will be identifying rhymes and observing spelling patterns while reading this book. Your child will also be learning about Dr. Seuss and the types of books he wrote. This is with connection to his birthday next week.
  • Writing- Your child will be writing a short message to a friend. You can review this skill at home by asking your child to write you a few sentences about his/her day, what he/she learned at school or about anything that he/she finds interesting. Please make sure that your child begins the sentences with a capital letter and includes an end mark (period, question mark, or exclamation mark).
Math- This week your child will be determing if a two digit number is less than, greater than or equal to another two digit number, estimating the position of a number on a number line that is marked only in multiples of ten and ordering two digit numbers from least to greatest and vice versa.
Theme- Social Studies- Needs vs. Wants- This week your child will start a new unit 'Needs Vs. Wants'. Some vocabulary words that you can review at home in order for your child to better understand this unit are needs vs. wants, goods, services, and products. You can also help your child by asking him/her to identify the things you see at shops as needs or wants next time you go shopping.
