Open House is this Thursday August 18th, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. This is a great time for your child to share with you the cool things we are doing in class, and for parents and teachers to talk. We look forward to seeing you.
We are starting off the school year with a very cool fieldtrip!
Date: Friday August 19th, 2011
Place: CHIMINIKE Interactive Children Museum
Time of Departure from school: 8:15 a.m.
Estimated Time of Duration of Fieldtrip: between 1 ½ to 2 hours
Estimated Time of Departure from Chiminike: 10:45 a.m.
Cost of Entrance per child: Lps. 120.00 (this fee includes transportation, the dinosaur 45-minute exhibition and a snack at the Museum)
Cost of Entrance per adult: Lps. 150.00 (only includes the dinosaur 45-minute exhibition)
We will need 5 chaperones to accompany our class. If you can come with us on the fieldtrip, please let us know by Wednesday.

We hope you had a great weekend! The children did a great job last week and are ready for a year filled with learning and fun!
- Please remember to check our class blog every Monday. This is your weekly letter; it might be a good idea for you to print it out. Our homework tracker, important dates and notices will all be posted on this blog.
· In order for the First graders to begin their day properly, it is very important that everyone be at school on time. Our day promptly begins at 8 o’clock.
· Homework will be sent home Monday –Thursday.
· Every student needs to bring a water bottle / thermos to school.(School does not supply paper cups)
· Show and Tell: The first graders are very excited about Show and Tell. A reminder will be sent home with your child letting you know what day he/she will be presenting to the class. We will discuss more about Show and Tell during Open House.

Language Arts: Children will work on their All About Me posters.
Phonics: Review of Initial and Ending Consonant sounds and Rhyming words
Spelling Words: and, with, his, they, that
Students will have weekly spelling challenges every Friday morning
Math: Patterns and Readiness for Addition and Subtraction.
Social Studies: We will begin our Citizenship Unit, focusing on Honesty, Compassion and Respect
