Week 39- May 23rd-May 27th

Dear Parents,

We hope everyone had a great weekend! Here are a few reminders that we would like all parents to make note of:
  • Pizza Party- This Wednesday, May 25th, Vanessa would like to treat all her classmates to a pizza lunch. Please do not pack your child a lunch.
  • Grade 1 End of Year Party- The first graders will be having their End of Year party this Thursday, May 26th, from 12:20-2:20. Parents are welcome to joing us so please come! Please do not send a lunch to school that day.
  • Early Release- This Friday, May 27th, is early dismissal. Students will be going home at  11:45 a.m. Please do not send a lunch that day.
  • Fly Up Day- Students will be visiting the second grade for one class period on June 6th.
  • Early Release Days- June 7th and 8th are both early dismissal days. Your child will be going home at 11:45 a.m.
  • Discovery Idol- Discovery Idol will be held on June 7th.
  • Discovery Zone Summer Camp- begins June 13th. More information will be sent home this week.
  • Please have your child bring back his/her progress report if he/she has not done so already.
This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
  • Phonics- The new words for this week are set, put, end, another, and well. The students will be learning these words plus reviewing older ones daily through chants and various activites.
  • Writing- Your child will be reviewing the writing process and learning how to write in order to inform and learn by continuing to research and write about an animal of his/her choice.
  • Reading-Your child will be reading various informational texts in order to find information on his/her animal.
Math- This week the your child will be finishing the addition and subtraction math unit. The rest of the week will be dedicated to reviewing all the math skills taught this year through various games and activites.

Theme-Science-Organisims- This week your child will continue to research an animal of his/her choice. He/she will be writing and creating a poster about an animal and present his/her work at the end of the week.

Monday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Math- Review worksheet
-Theme- Find pictures of your animal- your child can draw, cut pictures from magazines or print them from a computer                 
Tuesday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Math-Subtracting 2-Digit Numbers worksheet
-L.A- Write sentences using the spelling words
Wednesday
-Reading-Read 10 minutes
-Math-Subtracting 2-digits worksheet
-L.A- Be a Good Listener worksheet
Thursday
-Reading- Read 10 minutes
-Math-Adding 2-Digits worksheet
-Phonics-Study for spelling challenge

Reminders
  • Progress Reports- please bring them back A.S.A.P
  • If your child has any animal books, please bring them to school
  • DPTO-check the DPTO website for up coming events and information. DPTO
  • Please label ALL of your child's belongings with a permanent marker; lunch boxes, containers, sweaters, water bottles, bags, etc.
  • Water Bottles- Your child must come to school with a water bottle every day.
  • Library- Please make sure that your child brings his/her library book to school on his/her assigned library day.
