Week 5, September 5-9

Dear Parents,
I hope you enjoyed your weekend!
 Our school is preparing  to celebrate the Independence Day that will take place on Wednesday September 14th.
  We will begin the celebrations  with a Desayuno Tipico, followed by cultural presentations and traditional Honduran games. Each student is responsible to bring in his/her assigned food item. These items will be assigned next Monday and a note will be sent home in your child's folder. Please check the folder. This is a half day. Students will be going home at 11:45 am. Your child does not need to bring in a snack for break or lunch that day. Your child is encouraged to wear traditional Honduran clothing or blue and white. There will be no school Thursday, September 15th, and Friday, September 16th. Classes resume on Monday, September 19th.

 This week, your child will inquire into the following:
Language Arts

Working With Words -This week  Your child will be reviewing the spelling words through various activities and chants.


Reading- This week your child will begin reading and learning about the Honduran Heroes Your child will be learning the reading skills making predictions, identifying characters, setting (when and where), sequencing (beginning, middle, and end), using context clues to understand the meanings of words within the text.

•Writing Your child will  continue writing an Opinion Piece in which they introduce the topic they will be writing about, supply reasons for the opinion and provide some sense of closure.

Math- This week your child will be  child will be practicing how to solve joining/ addition problems, write an addition sentence, write an addition sentence using zero, write sums vertically and horizontally. 

 Social Studies- This week your child will learn about the life and important information about Lempira, Francisco Morazan, and, Jose Cecilio de Valle.

Inside your child's folder you will find a white piece of paper with your child's username and password. This is a great site to practice and develop your child's reading skills .

Practice at least 3 times a week for 15 minutes.





Monday
·  Reading- read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
· Social Studies- Investigate about the life and work of one of the Honduran heroes: Lempira, Fancisco Morazan or Jose C. del Valle, have your child write down two facts to share with his/her classmates.
Tuesday
· Reading- Read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log.
· Math – Vertical addition worksheet.
Wednesday
·  Reading- Read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
· Espanol- Homework
Thursday
· Reading- Read for 10 minutes and fill in the Reading Log
· 
PLEASE REMEMBER

Motricity class: Please have your child wear appropriate clothing for motricity class. Keep in mind that wearing the proper clothes for exercising affects safety and performance. The students need to wear tennis shoes, snickers, shorts,or sweat pants. First graders have motricity class on Tuesday and Thursday.
Midterm – Thursday, September 8.
Progress Reports will go home on Wednesday September 14. Please read and discuss the report with your child and then send it back to school with your signature.
Independence Day Celebration- Wednesday, September 14th
Early Release- Wednesday, September 14th, 11:45 am
No School- Thursday, September 15th and Friday, September 16th.
