Dear Parents,
We hope you enjoyed your long weekend!





Mom's please save the date. You are invited to a Mother's Day Brunch this coming Friday, May 8th at 8 am. in the Grade 1 Snack Hut.





Please send in an empty tuna fish can and an empty paper towel roll.






This week your child will inquire into the following:

Language Arts


Working with Words: The words for this week are:

Your child will also be reviewing older words through various chants and activities.




Reading:
We will be reading Here in the Tropical Rain Forest
Students will identify the main idea and retell details, as well as answer questions about key details in the text.






Writing:  

We will be reading about the Great Kapok Tree .
We will recall or gather information from experiences from provided sources to answer a question. We will take a tour around the amazing AMAZON Rain forest.






Math:  
We will continue practicing telling time to the hour, past hour, and elapsed time. We will review measurement; using non-standard units to measure different objects.








Social Studies:
We will continue our unit on FAIRY TALES. Students will compare /contrast different versions of Jack and the Beanstalk,
and retell their version of the story.













MONDAY:
Reading:  Read for at least 10 minutes and record pages read in log
Math:  Telling Time to the Hour and Half hour Worksheet
Working with Words: Contraction's worksheet.

TUESDAY:
Reading:  Read for at least 10 minutes and record pages read in log
Math: Minute Math Worksheet
Language: Adjectives worksheet.

WEDNESDAY:
Reading-: Read for at least 10 minutes and record pages read in log
Math: Minute Math Worksheet
Spanish: worksheet

THURSDAY:
Reading-: Read for at least 10 minutes and record pages read in log
Math: Ch.9 Review Worksheet
Working with Words: study for spelling words.





SPRING GENERAL ASSEMBLYWe want to give all our school community a heads up and ask you to mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. We need to reach a quorum for this General Assembly and be able to vote on budget, calendar and school improvements. The DPTO is offering a Pizza Party to the Grade that has the most parents attending the General Assembly!

DISCOVERY IDOL AUDITIONSOur annual talent show is around the corner! Students can audition their songs, dances or other talents this Thursday, May 7, and Friday 8. The talent show will take place on Wednesday, May 20 at 10:15 p.m. 

COWBOY CARNIVAL AND PICNIC DINNER & MOVIE UNDER THE STARS- The DPTO is working very hard to put together a wonderful fun filled evening for our students and parents. This will take place on Friday, May 8 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Cowboy theme games and great food will be available for everyone, and there will be a great family movie – The Book Of Life – projected for everyone at 6:00 p.m. Dress up in cowboy gear, bring a blanket and come have a delightful family experience.

PINEAPPLE INITIATIVEIf you purchase a pineapple for your home consumption, please send the crown on the pineapple in a bag to school as soon as possible. There is an innovative initiative to plant (and sell) Discovery harvested pineapples! We will begin on Monday, May 11, so send those crowns soon!!!

SUMMER CAMPDiscovery Zone 6 is back! Get an early registration! The Summer Camp will run from June 8-26, from 8:00 to 11: 50 a.m.  Please ask Ms. Valencia Duron for more information vduron@discoveryschool.edu.hn
