January 20, 2015

Dear Parents,
We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend with your family!

100 Days of School is just around the corner. Remember that Thursday, January 22nd is the deadline for your 100 Day of School project. We will be having our presentations on Friday, January 23rd.

This week your child will inquire into the following:

Language Arts
Working with Words: This week's words are:

live, me, back, most, give
Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older words through various chants and activities.

Reading-The class will begin reading Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel. We will be identifying the problem of the story, continue exploring summarizing, retelling a text in their own words, and answering questions about key details in the text. You can help your child with these skills by asking him/her to retell a page of a story or the entire story in his/her own words after reading it.

Writing- Students will recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question. Also we will be working with adjectives.

Math-
We will continue with Chapter 5, how addition and subtraction are related and also how to identify and use related facts.
The class will be practicing skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s, up to 120. Please help your child with skip counting by asking them to count nightly. Your child is expected to be able to count to 120 forward and back by 1s.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK ORDERS - Scholastic Book Club leaflets are out. This is an optional activity offered by the school, because we know you want to motivate your child to read at home.  With your purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem more books for the benefit of your children in our school.  The due date to purchase the books online is Jan.30. The books will arrive to the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date.

BRICKS4KIDS – As an after school activity for our younger students, the school has been in contact with Bricks4 kidz to offer six one-hour, Friday- afternoon sessions beginning on Friday, January 30 from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.. Following the We learn-We build-We play approach, Bricks 4 Kidz after-school classes build on the universal popularity of LEGO® bricks to deliver a high quality of educational play.  For more information on its educational value, visit http://www.bricks4kidz.com/ http://www.bricks4kidz.com/   Bricks4kidz will be here on Friday, January 23 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. if you want to register your child (ren).
