Week 33- March 26th- 30th

Dear Parents,

We hope that everyone had a fantastic weekend! We are sure that everyone is ready for the Easter break, however, we would like to remind all parents and students that it is still important to be on time and attend school every days this week.
If your child has still not done so, can you please have your child bring in 1 dozen plastic Easter eggs which can be opened asap. We need them for the Easter activity which is planned for this Friday.
This Friday, March 30th, the first grade classes will be visiting Chiminike to watch a play and have an Easter egg hunt. If your child has not returned his/her persmission slip, can he/she do so asap. He/she will not be allowed to join us on the trip if we do not have his/her permission slip signed by a parent/guardien. The students will be leaving the school at 8:30 a.m. and returning by 11:30 a.m. Please have your child wear his/her discovery shirt that day if he/she has one. Your child does not need to bring a snack or lunch to school on this day.
The New Discovery School "Home of the Wolves" T-Shirts and Polos are now available for purchase in the Finance office. T-shirts are sold for $7 (L140) and polos for $13 (L250). With every shirt sold, you are contributing to the Choir in their effort to raise funds for their San Francisco trip this summer. Also, we sould like to remind students to wear Discovery School shirts on Fridays to demonstrate school pride.
We are still in need of American coins! We are asking you to please donate any American coins you may have at home.
Last, the Discovery School annual Family Night will be on April 20th from 4-7 P.M. This is a very fun night for all students, parents and teachers! There will be various activities for children, along with food and other goods you can purchase.
This week your child will inquire into the following:

Language Arts
  • Phonics- This weeks words are much, before, line, right, and too. The class will be reviewing these words and other Word Wall words through various words activities and chants.
  • Reading- This week your child will be reading and performing a readers theater. He/she will be practicing reading with tone and expression. You can help your child with this skill by asking him/her to add various 'voices' when reading.
  • Writing- Your child will work on sentence writing by writing fairytale riddles. He/she will be required to write sentences that are complete, have all the Word Wall words spelt correctly, capitals and end marks in the correct places, and that include adjectives. You can practice this skill at home by having your child write simple sentences about a story he/she read, his/her day at school or about any topic your child chooses.
