Dear Parents,
I hope
you enjoyed your weekend! This will be a short and busy week.
Our
school is preparing to celebrate the Independence Day that
will take place on Wednesday September 13th.
We will begin the celebrations with a Desayuno Tipico, followed by cultural presentations in each grade. First grade is in charge of presenting about the Bay Islands. If you happen to have anything related about these gorgeous islands, (corals, map, souvenirs, etc) please let me know so we can use them for our presentation. THANK YOU to those parents that have sent items, decoration, and banners for our stand. Your support is greatly appreciated. Each child will have to learn a small phrase to present. I would love to have the kids wearing clothes as if they were going to the beach on this day (Sept. 13th) such as hats, sunglasses, sandals, towels, sundresses, etc. Please avoid swimsuits.

We will
be practicing our presentation during the following days.
Each
student is also responsible to bring in his/her assigned food item.
September 13th is a half day. Students will be going
home at 11:45 am. Your child does not need to bring in a snack for break or
lunch that day. There will be no school Thursday, September 14th, and
Friday, September 15th. Classes resume on Monday, September
18th.
This
week, your child will inquire into the following:
Students will be reviewing the word wall words we have
studied up to this point through various activities and chants. Due to the short week, we will not have a spelling
challenge.
Please make sure your child can recognize them all.

This week your child will continue reading and learning about the
Honduran Heroes Your child will be making predictions, identifying
characters, setting (when and where), sequencing (beginning, middle, and end),
using context clues to understand the meanings of words within the text.
Your child will be writing an opinion piece about their favorite place of Honduras.
They will introduce the topic they are writing about, supply reasons for the
opinion and provide some sense of closure.
We will be wrapping our Honduras Unit. The students will watch
a variety of videos of different touristic places in Honduras. They have
learned about the national flower, bird, animal, and tree.
I am kindly requesting small prizes for our Prize Box. These are given as incentives when the students have filled their sticker charts for being caught doing an amazing job and being responsible in First Grade. This is optional. If you would like to help, some ideas are cute stickers, pencils, erasers, little notepads, cars, keychains, bubbles, etc. Thanks again for your support!!!
