Week 20 January 11-15

Dear Parents, 

We hope you enjoyed your weekend! 

This Friday, January 15th, the report cards will be going home. On this day, we will also have a half day for conferences. These conferences are on a need-to-meet basis. For the half-day, is it a early dismissal at 11:45am. 

There is no school on Monday, January 18th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 



This month your child will have the opportunity to purchase books through the International Scholastic Book Clubs. This is an optional activity offered by the school, in case you want to motivate your child to read at home and to increase their own library. With you purchase, our library will accumulate points to redeem for more books for the benefit of you children in our school. The due date to purchase the books online is January 25. The books will arrive to the school in one single delivery, and we will distribute them to the students according to their orders, approximately three weeks after the purchase due date. 



100 Days of School is coming up! It will be celebrated on January 28th. Each student will create a project with 100 items. Students can use their imagination and creativity. The project should include a total of 100 items. The students will present their project to the class. The project must be brought to school on Wednesday, January 27th. 

This week your child will be inquiring into the following:

Language Arts
Word Wall- This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Wall words with various chants and activities. We will continue with last week's words. The spelling challenge will be on Thursday, January 14th.

Vocabulary: little, place, work, do, know, years 




Reading: For this week, we will start reading texts on Martin Luther King Jr.   

Writing: Continuing from Reading, the students will be writing an informational text on Martin Luther King Jr. 

Science:  We will continue our unit in Solids and Liquids. Students will be comparing the different properties of solids. 

Math- This week your child will learn more about counting on.   

 
Chapter 6 Skills:  A3, A12, B27, B28, I1, I2, I3, I4

Reading: Read for 10 minutes and fill in the reading log.

Tuesday
Reading: Read for 10 minutes and fill in the reading log.

Working With Words:  Study for Spelling challenge


Thursday

Reading: Read for 10 minutes and fill in the reading log. 
Math:  Practice an IXL skill (A12 - Counting on the Hundred Chart)

THANKS! Thank you for your generous support of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos Giving Tree and the Christmas Bazaar.  From your contributions, we were able to host a Christmas party, complete with movies, pizza, and a piñata, and even a visit from Santa, who brought each of the 105 orphans a T-shirt, 3 pairs of underwear, 6 pairs of socks, and a pair of shoes.  Smiles and laughter were abundant!
