The AvancED team will be visiting us this week. We are excited to have them here to observe and learn what make Discovery School so awesome!
This coming Friday, October 23rd, we are having our Student -Led Conferences. On Monday, inside your child’s folder, you will find your conference time. If you have any questions or inconveniences, please contact me, so we can meet at another time. Please remember these are student-led conferences, your child must accompany you on Friday.
Grade 1 has been learning a lot about the United Nations and some of their different branches. We are excited to be working with the 5th graders. We met last Friday and every 1st grader has been paired up with a 5th grader. They will be working as partners on their U. N. project. They will be creating an informative poster, comic strip, video, or skit.
All parents are invited to stay and partake in the annual U.N. Day celebration here at school starting at 8:30 a.m, on Friday, Oct. 30th . This is a very fun and exciting day for all, where parents and children get together to learn about new cultures. This is also a half day. All students will be going home at 11:45 a.m on this day.

BOOK CHARACTER DAY - In keeping with Discovery School tradition, students are invited to dress up as his/her favorite book character. Your child should pick a book that he/she has read or that has been read to him/her. It should also be a book that was written before it became a movie or TV show. Please remember: NO SCARY COSTUMES! The 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will set up a live interactive museum on Thursday, October 29 which will last from 8:50-9:40 a.m. This will allow the younger students to come and learn about new book characters. Parents are welcome to come and meet all of the exciting characters and learn about some new books.
DPTO UN Day Preparations- The DPTO has begun on their preparations for our school UN DAY celebration on Friday, October 30, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. All school families are invited to participate and represent their country of origin. CHRISTIMAS BAZAAR- LOOKING FOR VENDORS- Discovery’s Helping Hands Club, a community service club that benefits the children of the Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos orphanage will be having a Christmas Bazaar. Interested vendors should email, Discovery_bazaar@outlook.com.
ADVANCED EXTERNAL REVIEW TEAM VISIT- The school continues preparing for the AdvancED team visit October 18-22. The team has invited all parents for a meeting on Tuesday, October 20, from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Early Childhood and Elementary parents will meet in the 2nd Floor Conference Room, and the Middle and High School Parents will meet in Community Information Center. Please mark your calendars/agendas if you are interested in coming and being a part of this accreditation process.
NOCHE BENEFICIOSA – The Senior Class would like to invite you their fund raising activity this Thursday, October 22. The activity will take place in Pollo Tropical, located in Boulevard Juan Pablo II from 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm. All profits will go towards their Community Service project. Come and enjoy a nice dinner with your family and friends!
DISCOVERY SPORTS
Track and Field
We will be participating for the ABSH in Track & Field ,that will be held in San Pedro Sula.
It has been organized by the EIS( Escuela Internacional Sampedrana ,San Pedro Sula.This
event will take place on October 28-October 31.This event is only for Middle School and
High School students/athletes .
Basketball - We are getting ready for the ABSH Basketball tournament. This will take place at the American School of Tegucigalpa, from November 11 to November 14.
Important Points: If parents or relatives would like to accompany us for support, they are welcome.
FUNDACION ABRIGO – Once again, Discovery School supports Fundación Abrigo in their mission to lodge families from the rural areas who come to Hospital Escuela. We are asking our school families to send 1 gallon of floor disinfectant per family, and to send it in by Friday, October 30. What a wonderful way to show our gratitude for what we have – to share what we have with those in need!
