Dear Parents,
We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. This coming Thursday the
first graders will be visiting Chiminike Children’s Museum. The students will
be watching a play, The Three Little Wolves. Chiminike does not allow
food or beverages to be brought in. Please fill out permission slip and
indicate which snack menu your child would like. Parents are welcome to join
us.
Our last MAP session is this coming Tuesday. The students will
be taking the Reading test. Please help us by making sure your child comes to
school well rested on that day.
This week your child will inquire into
the following:
Language Arts
Working with Words: The words
for this week are:
animal, off, won't, talk, & play
Your child will also be reviewing
older words through various chants and activities.
Reading:
Students will identify the main idea
and retell details, as well as answer questions about key details in the text.
Writing: Students will be writing an
expository text; in which they name their topic, supply facts, and provide a
sense of closure.
Math:
This week we will begin our Geometry
Unit. Students will be sorting, comparing and exploring 3-D shapes. Each
student will create a 3-D model at home and present it to the class on Friday May 15th.
Social Studies:
We will continue our unit on FAIRY
TALES. Students will compare /contrast different versions of The Three Little Pigs and
retell their version of the story.

SPRING GENERAL ASSEMBLY – We want to give all
our school community a heads up and ask you to mark your calendars for
Saturday, May 16 at 9:00 a.m. We need to reach a quorum for this General
Assembly and be able to vote on budget, calendar and school improvements. The
DPTO is offering a Pizza Party to the Grade that has the most parents attending
the General Assembly!
PINEAPPLE INITIATIVE – If you purchase a
pineapple for your home consumption, please send the crown on the pineapple in
a bag to school as soon as possible. There is an innovative initiative to plant
(and sell) Discovery harvested pineapples! We will begin on Monday, May 11, so
send those crowns soon!!!
SUMMER CAMP – Discovery Zone 6 is
back! Get an early registration! The Summer Camp will run from June 8-26, from
8:00 to 11: 50 a.m. Please ask Ms. Valencia Duron for more information
