Dear Parents,
We hope you had a great weekend! April is here, and like they
say “April showers bring May flowers”. We love SPRING!
This week your child will inquire into the following:

with Words: The words for this week are:
such, because,
turned, hear, why, rain
Your child will also be reviewing older words through various
chants and activities.
Reading:
We will be reading Fox
On Stage by James Marshall. This is a classical animal fantasy which we
are sure the students will love.
We will identify similarities and differences between two
texts, highlight new vocabulary and make predictions.
Writing:
Students will write an explanatory text/ "HOW TO" with a topic, facts,
and provide a sense of closure. We will model one at school and then we will
brainstorm ideas on what their writing could be about. This will be homework
and graded presentation.
We will continue with Chapter 8. We will learn different
strategies on how to add and subtract two digit numbers! We will use hands on
activities to practice the strategies.
We will begin our unit on ORGANISMS/
LIVING AND NON-LIVING things on earth. Also, we will be having a big
campaign at school to reduce, reuse and recycle. Discovery will be “GOING GREEN”

GO GREEN
MONTH: Last
Friday, we kicked off our GO GREEN month’s activities with an
assembly. Students are reminded to take
green actions in their classrooms and at home.
Students will be keeping a “GO GREEN” chart in their classroom to record
these actions. Recycling is one of
these actions, so students are encourage to bring from home their cleaned and
sorted paper, glass, aluminum, and plastic containers for recycling. Also, remember
to wear green each Friday this month.
BRICKS4KIDZ – Session 2 is this
Friday, April 17. The sessions run from 3:15 to 4:15 and will be open for
students in from kindergarten to grade five. There are spaces still available!
You can register on Friday
GO GREEN
CLASSROOM COMPETITION FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY - The environmental
science students should have bought a poster chart to your classroom. On this chart, students can keep track of
their "green" actions. They
may add a dot/stick/X to each box when they:
-
Recycle aluminum, paper, or plastic in the appropriate bin
-
Save energy by turning off the computers, lights, and fan when leaving the
classroom
-
Conserve resources by using both sides of the paper
-
Prevent waste production by using a reusable lunch box or thermos
