We hope you had an awesome weekend! MARCH is finally here.
This month we will embark in a journey to the world of Dr. Seuss. We will be
having our Read-A-Thon for the whole
month.
This week your child will inquire into the following:
Language
Arts
Working
with Words: This week's words are:
here,
following, came, want, show, best
Your child will be learning these words and reviewing older
words through various chants and activities.
Reading:
We will continue with
the series of stories by Arnold Lobel. This time the book is called Owl At Home. Students will learn
new vocabulary; describe settings, characters and problems in the stories.
Writing:
Students will work on a writing piece in which they introduce
a topic, state an opinion, supply a reason and provide a sense of closure.
We will also be looking at Dr. Seuss books and apply the 6+1
Traits of Writing.(ideas, organization, and word choice). If you have any Dr.
Seuss books, please share them with us. We will take good care of them and
return them at the end of the month.
Math:
We will finish Chapter 7. We will continue comparing numbers
to show greater than >, less than <
and equal to =.
Social
Studies:
We will continue with our unit on MAPS and OUR COMMUNITY. If you have any maps, globes or books that
you would love to share, please send them with your child. We promise to take
good care of them.
Very soon we will be going on a field trip!

Every Wednesday and Friday in First grade, we will be having a
super special Dr. Seuss activity. For some activities we would be asking for your
help.
This WEDNESDAY March 4, 2015, we would like our
students to bring their favorite sleep
book and come in “Pajamas”.
On FRIDAY, March 6, 2015 we will be cooking a
special snack, GREEN
EGGS and HAM.
ACCREDITATION
PROCESS – SURVEYS -Below you will find the link that will take you
to the corresponding survey that you need to complete. Please take some time
from your busy schedule to complete the survey that will provide valuable
information towards the accreditation process and therefore, school
improvement.
A Spanish version of the survey for parents is available in
the email sent to parents with the weekly Monday Memo. However the survey needs
to be completed in English. The Spanish version will help parents complete the
English version as it is an exact copy of the survey.

LOST AND
FOUND – If your son or daughter has lost a sweater, Tupperware, or
water bottle, please send him or her to the office to check out the Lost and
Found boxes. There are many items that need to be claimed by their owners as
soon as possible.
EARLY
CHILDHOOD AND ELEMENTARY READ-A-THON – To commemorate Dr. Seuss’
birthday in March, the students from grades Kindergarten through five will all
be participating in the month-long Read-a-Thon.
The winner from each class will go out to lunch as a special treat from our
DPTO! Please encourage your students to read, read, read, and fill out the
reading logs that will be distributed next week.
