Week 13 October 31- November 4





We hope you enjoyed your weekend! On Monday, October 31st there will be a Costume Parade in the morning. Please allow your child to dress up in a costume this day! We would LOVE to see book characters, but all costumes are welcome if they are age and school appropriate!

This week your child will be inquiring into the following:


 This week your child will be reviewing all the Word Wall words with various chants and activities. The spelling challenge will be on Friday!
Spelling words: number, way, could, people, no

The students will start reading, Frog and Toad All Year. They will begin with the story, Down the Hill.






This week, your child will learn more about poems with rhyming. They will create their own poems based on the poem/song, "Down by the Bay". 


The students will start learning about weather. We will discuss the different types of weather and begin using a thermometer to record temperature.

This week your child will continue working on learning addition strategies such as making ten, adding three numbers. On Tuesday November 8 we will be having a math test.

Week 12 October 24-28

We hope you enjoyed your weekend!

~On Friday, Oct. 28th, beginning at 9:00 a.m, all parents are invited to stay and

partake in the annual U.N. Day celebration here at school. This is a very fun and exciting day for all, where parents and children get together to learn about new cultures. So if you can, please join us on this great day! This is also a half day. All students will be going home at 11:45 a.m on this day.


~ Grade 1 has been learning a lot about the United Nations and the different branches. We have been talking about WFP, UNESCO and UNICEF. They continue to work hard with their group and will present their project this Friday October 28th at 8:45 am. You are also invited to come and see our presentations.

This Friday, October 28th, will be the day they present their projectThis week your child will be writing an informative piece based on what they learned about U.N. They will open the topic of U.N., supply facts on U.N. and then provide a closure for their writing.

Dress Up / Costume  Day  is  around  the corner.We are going to
have a celebration on Monday, October 31st. On this day students will come to school dressed up as their favorite book, or movie character. 



We will also be trick or treating around school. Please send in one bag of candies, lollipops, chocolates or any small treats or toys. Please send in by Tuesday October 25th. Also each Child should bring his/her basket to go trick or treating around school. Please send he basket in by Thursday.

Week 11 October 17-21

We hope you enjoyed your weekend!
This coming Friday, October 21st, we are having our Student -Led Conferences. On Monday, inside your child’s folder, you will find your conference time. If you have any questions or inconveniences, please contact me, so we can meet at another time. Please remember these are student-led conferences, your child must accompany you on Friday.

~Grade 1 has been learning a lot about the United Nations and some of their different branches.At the end of this unit they will be working as partners on their U. N. project.They will be creating an informative poster to present to the class.

~This week we will have two special guests that will be coming in to talk to us a little bit about UNICEF and WFP (World Food Program) and what they do around the world.

Dear Families, 

Welcome Back! I hoped everyone enjoyed their October holidays!





This week, your child will inquire into the following:

Students will be reviewing the word wall words we have studied up to this point through various activities and chants. The spelling challenge will be on Friday.  

New Vocabulary: make, her, would, like,some.






With our U.N. day coming up at the end of the month, we will be reading materials and learning about the United Nations (U.N.) and its different programs. For this week, We will be discussing about World Food Programme (WFP) and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).  

~ In relation to our reading, we will be creating poster about UN and focusing on how to peer review. There are IXL skills I have added to the bottom of the blog. It’s a wonderful way to get some extra practice.

For this week’s math, we will furthering our learning of addition with its different strategies. We will be learning about commutative properties and adding doubles.Your child will take the Chapter 2 test on Friday, so please make sure they are fully rested and have a great breakfast!

Social Studies will tie in with our reading and writing about UN.
